Call for Submissions: HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP) 2012

November 2, 2011

This item from Mickey Weller, program intern

HERE has been one of New York’s most prolific producing organizations since 1993, and today, stands at the forefront of the city’s presenters of daring new hybrid art. We have a long history of supporting unique and innovative artists, ensuring them the opportunity to develop and perform original work as well as assist them in enhancing their skill in all areas of artistic work.  Through the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP), artists are able to develop their work in a peer-based program designed to nurture new and unique work. Our community of mid-career resident artists meet monthly, show works-in-progress, develop workshop productions, and mount full-scale productions.

HERE is currently accepting applications to HARP which commissions and develops new hybrid works over a 1- to 3-year period. Our deadline is January 2, 2012.

Podcast With Martin Denton

April 21, 2011

Prolific, talented playwright Matt Freeman (published in Plays and Playwrights  2002 and Playing With Canons) has a new project.  He is recording podcasts for New Books in Theater.  For his 2nd interview he has chosen to speak with Martin Denton.  As you know Martin is  Executive Director of The New York Theatre Experience, Inc., and editor of NYTE Small Press’ Plays and Playwrights series.

Matt knows a great deal about our publishing program and asks just the right questions to give Martin a chance to talk about its history, how the program works, and about our newest book, the soon to be released Plays and Playwrights 2011.

You can listen to the podcast here.

Joshua Conkel & Crystal Skillman are part of Gentrifusion

January 7, 2011

Beginning January 29, Red Fern Theatre Company will present GENTRIFUSION, a series of short plays searching for the truth behind the gentrification of New York.  All residents are given voice in this series, ultimately discovering that both long time residents and the new crop of gentrifiers benefit and suffer in different measures and different ways.

Two of our published authors have plays included. Joshua Conkel (PP 10) is represented by his short play, The Asphalt Queen or Get It, Girl. And Crystal Skillman (PP 08) shows her play, Crawl.

Plays and Playwrights for the New Millennium

October 16, 2010

NOW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD AT BARNES & NOBLE

Plays and Playwrights for the New Millennium was re-released as an e-book available through Amazon’s Kindle store earlier this year. We’ve been eagerly awaiting getting it into Barnes & Noble.  And now the time has arrived.

So for those of you with accounts with Barnes & Noble, and those who use the Nook e-reader, wait no longer.  You can, in seconds, download this great new book direct from the B&N ebook store. And just like Amazon you don’t have to buy a special reader (although they are nice and more and more people seem to have them every day).  Both offer free apps for your mobile phone and PC.  Check it out.

In case you missed the info first time around, here’s a quick run-through.  NewMillennium – the e-book contains seven of the original plays as published in 2000 in our very first volume of plays by emerging playwrights. The plays are as good a read as they were ten years ago — there’s full information on the NYTE Small Press website.

These seven authors are still writing and their new pieces are even more exciting and we’d like to give you a feel for what they’re up to in 2010. So we’ve added bonus material for this digital version: new 10-minute short pieces, an excerpt from a film treatment and, because Kirk Wood Bromley doesn’t write short plays, the first 10 minutes or so of his latest work.

Download from Amazon or from Barnes & Noble — it’s $9.99 at either place and enjoy.

New Play by James Comtois

May 5, 2010

James Comtois (PP’07) has a new play coming to the Kraine in June.  His theatre company, Nosedive Productions will be producing The Little One. From the press release:

Cynthia, a fledgling vampire, is taken under the wing of a more venerable one, Marie. Marie tries to teach her little one how to hunt and be merciful towards humans. However, like all rebellious children, Cynthia has ideas of her own on how to make the most out of immortality.

Watch for more details soon.

Plays and Playwrights 2010 Has Arrived

April 6, 2010

It was really exciting yesterday morning when the books arrived.  Once the cartons were neatly packed we started notifying all the playwrights.  Nat’s the only one who got here before dusk and he loved the new cover.  Martin’s got it posted on Facebook and I’ve got a nice page up on nytesmallpress’s website.  Check it out.

And you can still save if you order at our shop.  It will be available at both amazon and b&n online very shortly.
